Steal Or Die Skill Tree Guide: Best First Upgrades (Roblox)
What is actually confirmed about the Steal Or Die skill tree: XP every match, one skill point per level, the stamina recovery node, and where to spend points.

Does the skill tree reset when you rebirth?
Every match you play in Steal Or Die feeds one long-term system: the skill tree. The in-game tutorial says it in plain text — every match turns XP for the skill tree, and your run balance buys gadgets, energy drinks and cases in the shop. The official description adds the headline: skill trees, upgrades and 10 rebirths. That is the confirmed skeleton. Most of the detail on top of it is still unpublished, so this guide separates what is verified, what is community-observed, and where the honest unknowns start.
How Does the Skill Tree Work in Steal Or Die?
The loop runs match → XP → level → point → spend. Every match you finish converts into experience for the tree — the tutorial makes no exception for dying. Levels exist and arrive early: creators have hit level two mid-session on camera. Each level-up pays out skill points, and community reports from early players say one point per level; nothing shown on screen contradicts that, but there is no official documentation yet, so treat the exact rate as community-observed.
Points are spent in the skill tree screen, which opens in the lobby between matches. That lobby is also where you shoot hoops while the queue timer runs and where the shop lives — progression and downtime share one room.

Which Skill Nodes Are Actually Confirmed?
Exactly one: faster stamina recovery. A creator unlocked it on stream — and then unlocked it again at a second rank, which tells you the node has multiple tiers. It is the only node with on-screen proof in community gameplay. Anything else claimed about the tree — movement speed nodes, carry-weight nodes, quieter footsteps — is speculation until Vantage Gameworks publishes the full table or someone shows the unlock on screen.

Why Is Faster Stamina Recovery the Best First Upgrade?
Stamina is the survival stat in Steal Or Die, and the case does not need exact numbers to make itself:
- Escapes are sprints. The exit stays sealed at first, then opens on a countdown. When it opens, you want to be able to run — weighted down, with an entity between you and the door.
- Loot slows you down. The game openly ties rarity to weight: the rarer the haul, the slower you move. Creators have measured an 11 kg microwave and a mini fridge that made its carrier 50 percent slower. Every heavy grab raises the premium on sprint stamina.
- Dying zeroes the run. Loot only counts once you walk out with it. A second full sprint bar is often the difference between banking the haul and losing everything.
Even against a hypothetical full tree, faster stamina recovery would compete for the first slot. Right now it is also the only confirmed slot — which makes the decision easy.
When and Where Do You Spend Skill Points?
Spend them in the lobby, between matches, not mid-queue. One creator was seen opening the tree right after a match ended — “now I can upgrade my skill tree” — and there is no timer pressure on the decision. Two practical rules:
- Upgrade before you queue, not after you die. The benefit applies to the next match; buying it after a loss just means the match you lost never had it.
- Do not hoard points. Nothing shown so far suggests points expire or nodes sell out, but there is also no confirmed reason to sit on them — an early stamina rank pays out every single match.

What Else Does Your Balance Buy Between Matches?
The tutorial mentions gadgets, energy drinks and cases in the shop, bought with your run balance — the counter in the top-right of the HUD. None of their effects or prices have been verified, so the honest position is: the shop exists, and its inventory is undocumented. Do not budget around unknowns; do keep feeding the balance by grabbing the right loot, which the value list breaks down item by item.

What Do We Still Not Know About the Skill Tree?
- The full node table. One confirmed node out of an unknown total.
- The XP curve. How much experience a match pays, and how steep each level gets, is unpublished.
- Refunds. No evidence points are refundable or respecable.
- Rebirth interaction. The 10 rebirths in the official description are covered in the rebirth guide — including the fact that nobody outside the studio yet knows what a rebirth resets.
For the rest of the first-night basics — the lobby, the vote, the heist loop itself — start with the beginner guide, then work through the other guides as you level.
